Where can I buy ROTWILD products?

ROTWILD bicycles and clothing can be bought at specialist shops or in the ROTWILD Online Shop. For quality assurance reasons we do not sell the bikes directly, but send them exclusively to our specialist dealers. You can find ROTWILD dealers near you in ourdealer search at .

Where can I test ROTWILD models?

ROTWILD models can be tested at test events and in the ROTWILD test centres .

How do I find the right frame size?

Basically we recommend that you ask your ROTWILD dealer for information and advice. The ROTWILD size chart can provide a rough guide. Of course, only a test ride can give you the final information about the right size. You have the opportunity to do this in the ROTWILD test centres.

Where can I find the data on the frame geometry of the models?

You can find the current frame sizes including the complete geometry data below the general product information of the respective model on our website.

Where can I find the serial number of my ROTWILD bike?

The serial number of your bike is located on the frame. On ROTWILD E-MTBs and E-bikes the serial number is located on the underside of the down tube near the motor housing.

Who do I contact in case of complaints and technical problems?

Please contact your ROTWILD dealer if you have technical problems or a warranty claim. You can also get help with technical questions in the ROTWILD forum.

How long do I have a warranty claim?

Basically, when you buy a new product, you have a legal warranty of 24 months. Your contact person for warranty claims is the ROTWILD dealer from whom the product was purchased. In addition, we offer a Voluntary Manufacturer's Warranty after successful product registration and certain specifications.

How does ROTWILD test frames and components?

As part of the development process, new developments are extensively tested both on test benches and in practice. ROTWILD bikes meet the current safety standards based on:

  • ISO 4210 (MTB, road bike, trekking)
  • EN 15195 (EPAC)
  • EFBe EPAC Tri -Test

The ROTWILD E-MTBs also fulfil the:

  • DIN EN ISO 12100:2010 Safety of machinery
  • DIN EN 15194:2009+A1:2011 Electric motor assisted bikes
  • EPAC as well as Directive 2006/42/EC Machinery

What do I do if ...?

If you have any problems with the drive system of your ROTWILD eMTB, we recommend that you contact your specialist dealer and have a comprehensive fault diagnosis carried out. An eMTB is an electric motor-assisted bicycle that is subject to special guidelines.

Can I remove the battery and charge it at home?

On ROTWILD eMTBs with IPU.500 the battery is permanently integrated in the frame and cannot be removed. Please charge the battery according to the specifications using the supplied charger. A corresponding charging socket is integrated in the frame.

On ROTWILD eMTBs with IPU.660.R, IPU.750, IPU.375 and IPU.735 the battery can either be charged via the charging socket on the frame or removed for charging. Please always refer to the operating instructions of your eMTB.

Can I replace the battery myself?

To maintain the warranty claim, neither the sealed battery housing may be opened nor the battery itself replaced. For repair or replacement purposes, please contact a certified ROTWILD specialist dealer. Please also refer to the operating instructions of your eMTB.

How far can I get on one battery charge?

The respective range depends very much on the choice of the support level as well as many other external factors such as the terrain, weather, weight of the rider or the altitude profile of the selected route. For this reason, it is difficult or impossible to make a general statement about the distance that can be achieved with one battery charge.

How much time is needed to charge the battery?

IPU.500: The charging time is approx. 2.5 h when the battery is completely empty up to an 80% charge, and approx. 3.5 h up to a 100% charge.

IPU.660.R: The charging time is approx. 3.25 h for a complete discharge up to 80% charge, and approx. 4.55 h for a 100% charge.

IPU.750: The charging time  is approx. 4.00 h for a complete discharge up to an 80% charge, and approx. 6.00 h for a 100% charge.

Can I increase my battery capacity and use an additional battery, for example?

With ROTWILD eMTBs that have a removable battery (IPU.660.R, IPU.750, IPU.375, IPU.735), an additional battery can be carried in the backpack and changed during the tour. When removing and inserting a battery into your ROTWILD eMTB, always refer to the operating instructions of your eMTB.

You can also find tips on increasing the range in our ROTWILD magazine

How do I store and charge the battery?

The bike, the battery and the charger must be stored in a dry place. Cool temperatures do not harm the battery during storage. If the battery has to be stored for a longer period of time, we recommend doing so in a temperature range between 10 °C and 15 °C. For safety reasons, charging is deactivated by the control unit in the battery at temperatures below 0 °C and above 40 °C to prevent damage to the battery. To maintain performance, the battery should be charged every eight weeks. The battery may only be charged with the charger included in the scope of delivery or available as a ROTWILD accessory! Please refer to the operating instructions of your eMTB.

How does the battery react in cold conditions?

The effect of cold on the lithium-ion batteries can reduce the possible range.

What warranty do I have for the battery?

You can find this information at Warranty.

Motor

How and why is the eMTB regulated/locked?

With your ROTWILD eMTB you are using a registration-free version, limited to 25 km/h, with an average rated power of 250 W. This means that they are considered bicycles or pedelecs under traffic law. For further information, please refer to DIN EN 15194 2017.

Can the bike be ridden even if the motor is switched off or the battery is empty?

For bikes with Brose drive, this is precisely one of the key strengths. In this case, the electric power and the power contributed by the rider are completely separated from each other by a freewheel between the electric motor and the chainring. This means that the rider does not have to move any gears or the rotor of the electric motor in off-mode. He drives the chainring directly without losses or detours.

Is there a pushing aid?

Yes, there is a pushing aid. You will find information on how to use it in the user manual of your eMTB.

Influence of motor assistance on overall performance

When comparing the different drive concepts and the learned subjective feeling when riding a conventional mountain bike without a motor, it is important to consider various influencing variables:

  • eMTB typical, the tyres are designed for maximum traction and control - a higher tyre coefficient of friction can be the result
  • Higher system weight due to additional drive components, eMTB-optimised components and more potent touring equipment
  • Test rides confirmed this: At 23 km/h and a slight incline (approx. 1%), the riding performance of classic MTB and e-MTB only coincide when there is 40% assistance (highly dependent on speed and cadence)

Even with identical tyre friction coefficient, cw value, air density, projected area and assuming windless conditions, different final speeds are achieved with a constant 125 Watt input power, a rider weight of 80 kg and a constant incline of 5%:

  • MTB: weight bike + equipment=16kg, P[M]=125 W, v=8 km/h
  • eMTB (assistance off): Weight bike + equipment=28kg, P[M]=125 W, v=7 km/h

  • eMTB (assistance level 4): Weight bike + equipment=28 kg, P[M]=125 W, + 4th U-stage, v=25 km/h

The comparison shows how clearly the additional drive power affects the speed.

The subjective feeling that experience suggests after reaching the summit that the resistance of the pedal should decrease rapidly is a poor amplifier. Especially after switching back from level 4 to level 2, approx. 350 watts of additional power are missing. In this example, the cadence could not be taken into account, which also has a considerable influence on the perceived resistance torque.
