The R.EX PRO fast and with a distinctive character

E-mountain bikes with Avinox drives have attracted a lot of attention in the cycling community. MountainBIKE Magazine wanted to find out just how well the motor performs on the trail, so it put four bikes through a comparative test. The result? In its June 2026 issue, the magazine awarded the ROTWILD R.EX PRO a “Very Good” rating. The test team was impressed by the bike’s well-thought-out design, noting that it “rides at a very high level” and delivers impressive performance thanks to innovative details.

IPU is particularly highlighted for its technically masterful battery solution: “What makes the ROTWILD unique is its specially developed battery: ROTWILD is the first manufacturer in the world to use its own battery in a DJI bike. True to ROTWILD’s style, it can be removed from the side and boasts an impressive 864 Wh—more than the large DJI battery (800 Wh).” This clever design not only enables a long range but also allows for particularly quick and easy removal using the Push+ button—a decisive advantage in terms of handling.

Benchmark Powerhouse: ROTWILD is the only manufacturer to combine the Avinox motor with a proprietary, removable 864 Wh battery featuring the latest cell technology. The custom cell arrangement enables a uniquely compact battery design and the use of the Quick Release Push+ removal mechanism. The carbon housing significantly reduces weight and eliminates the need for an additional cover.

The powerful Avinox motor, combined with a well-conceived, modern geometry, delivers maximum riding enjoyment. This simple formula works exceptionally well in the R.EX PRO: “The geometry is modern and can be adjusted via rotating headset cups: As standard, the head angle is 64 degrees, while the seat angle is a rather steep 78 degrees.” These figures ensure balanced handling that performs convincingly both uphill and downhill, while also allowing riders to adapt the setup to their personal preferences.

The Avinox M1.24 motor delivers plenty of power in a small package. This extremely compact motor generates high torque and features a boost mode that can produce a maximum power output of 1,000 W. With a rated power of 250 W, the motor delivers continuous torque of up to 105 Nm, and in boost mode, up to 120 Nm.

Positively impressive from the very first moment on the trail

The very first riding impression is highly promising. The MountainBIKE editorial team writes: “Although the geometry might suggest otherwise, the ROTWILD doesn’t feel particularly long once you get on the bike: Right from the first flowing trail with corners, you immediately feel at home on the bike, while the compact rear end slips neatly through tight sections.” The R.EX is agile and precise, qualities that become particularly evident in demanding terrain.

The latest Eight-Pins seatpost blends seamlessly into the frame design and offers up to 228 mm of adjustment (in size XL).

Suspension performance at World Cup level

What has been proven on the toughest Enduro World Cup race tracks now proves itself in production form during testing: “The bike is highly precise to steer, and the suspension provides a good amount of support. In general, it encourages and rewards a sporty riding style; the frame subjectively belongs to the stiffer category, enabling precise riding maneuvers. You can practically feel the development work carried out together with the brand’s own race team.”

The riding characteristics on steep climbs and demanding trails are equally convincing across the board: “The ROTWILD remains stable in its travel while still providing plenty of feedback from the rather firmly tuned suspension. The R.EX also masters technical uphill trails: When corners get tight, it can be playfully lifted onto the rear wheel, allowing the front wheel to be positioned quickly. The rear suspension practically clings to the ground and generates plenty of grip despite the rather compact chainstays.”

The motor delivers a truly unique riding experience: “In combination with the immensely powerful Avinox drive unit, you practically leave riders on other drive systems behind, especially in Boost mode, which unleashes the motor’s full power.”

Distinctive rear triangle: The large volume of the carbon swingarm, featuring the Elevated Box Design, ensures symmetrical stiffness performance. The crossbar between the two chainstays moves upward along with the swingarm, providing ample tire clearance for the rear wheel. This also effectively prevents chain slap.

Conclusion: A true winner

Overall, the ROTWILD R.EX PRO impresses in the comparison test with its unique combination of innovative technology, well-conceived geometry, and outstanding performance. It rightfully receives the test verdict “Very Good.”
