That’s why at ROTWILD, we go straight to the core – the power center of the bike. With our first IPU – the ROTWILD Integrated Power Unit – we achieved something groundbreaking: the seamless integration of battery, motor, and control system into a single unit.
Instead of building a frame around existing power units, we develop drive units that are designed from the ground up for optimum integration. The result? A precisely tuned geometry, ideal weight distribution and maximum riding dynamics - for bikes that are not only extremely powerful, but also set new standards in their class in terms of riding technology. INTEGRATED POWER UNIT (IPU) - A PIONEER AND BLOWER FOR THE SPORTIVE E-MTB
IPU GEN.1
With our IPU Gen.1, we set the benchmark for e-drives in sporty mountain bikes. In 2013, we presented the first prototype with a fully integrated drive, which went into production the following year. Since then, the term IPU has stood for optimum balance, minimum weight, maximum efficiency and a natural riding experience at ROTWILD. We were the first on the market to integrate the battery, drive and control unit directly into the frame - no more add-on components. The result: a revolutionary e-MTB with top riding characteristics. A completely new design approach that fundamentally changed the acceptance of E-MTBs. For a completely new riding experience.
IPU GEN2
The IPU Gen2 (from 2020) marked a new milestone and responded to customer requests for tool-free removal using a quick-release fastener and significantly more capacity. With the enormous capacity of 720 Wh and a carbon housing that saved several hundred grams compared to existing concepts, the new battery fitted into the new carbon eMTB frames without an additional cover and put the 750 models at the forefront of technological development worldwide.
IPU GEN3
In 2021, we once again set new standards with the IPU Gen3. The super-light 360 Wh battery in a carbon housing became part of a unique frame concept for light e-MTBs. Our Quick-Release Push+ enables the fastest battery change on the market - simple, easy and lightning fast.
IPU GEN4
The IPU Gen4 combines the best of three generations of battery development to create a new standard in power density:
Thanks to the latest cell technology, it achieves a high battery capacity with a small volume. The form-integrated technology saves installation space and enables a seamless design without an extra cover. Together with the lightweight carbon housing, the IPU Gen4 guarantees maximum power density and particularly easy handling. In combination with powerful drives, it takes technical expertise to the next level - powerful, compact and user-friendly.
Initially available with the 720 Wh battery and Shimano EP801, we are now expanding the family with the DJI Avinox M1 motor. We are the first manufacturer to combine this drive with an in-house developed 864 Wh battery and the latest cells - for a perfect power package and new performance dimensions.
ADVANTAGES OF ROTWILD'S OWN DEVELOPMENT
The individual arrangement of the cells, determined by us, enables a unique compactness of the battery, which can thus be adapted to the frame design. We have access to the latest cell technology and are not dependent on the drive manufacturer. Minimal installation space, weight reduction to a minimum through the use of carbon, avoidance of unnecessary components such as covers and the use of the uncomplicated quick release mechanism: this is what makes the IPU Gen4 technically superior.
