For an always shining ROTWILD

Well-maintained bikes don't just look good. If you take your time and are not above a little meticulousness and precision, you can prevent repairs and wear and tear with regular bike care. And at the same time, you do something to preserve the value of your sports equipment. Don't worry: it doesn't always have to be the all-round service. Moreover, since the invention of curd soap, a lot has happened in the field of special cleaning products for bikes. We present a range of professional helpers that make cleaning quick and effective.

Getting the dirt of the frame by cleaning

First, the dirt has to come off the frame and all other parts. The ROTWILD service specialists use special e-bike cleaners for this. These prevent conductivity, moisture bridges and corrosion on surfaces, seals, cable connections and contact points. The procedure is simple: spray the cleaner on, let it take effect and rinse with water. There are also special cleaners for drive chains, cassettes, chainrings and rear derailleurs. Here, too, simply apply the cleaner and leave it to work for a minute. If necessary, foam up stubborn dirt and grease residues with a brush and then rinse with water. Dirty brake systems produce less braking power and reduce driving safety. A brake cleaner gently removes brake dust, oil residues and grease from the disc and pistons. It also moisturises the brake pads. For the ROTWILD experts, the products of Muc Off are partners in cleaning. Brushes are ideal for mechanically loosening dirt and co. Muc Off also has a unique glove in its range. With its nubs, dirt and grime can be comprehensively loosened.

To make the frame shine again: the Muc Off Nano Tech cleaner. Biodegradable and free from acids, solvents and CFCs.

Fully lubricated is fully won

Once the cleaning is done, it is time to lubricate the chain, gears and individual sprockets. It is ideal to choose lubricants according to the use under certain weather conditions and according to the route conditions. The range of products is very extensive. However, "all-rounders" are also available, which guarantee a good lubrication in wet and dry weather. The ROTWILD experts use the high-quality chain oils from Muc Off. These prevent corrosion and friction and thus ensure a smooth and quiet running chain. From there, the lubricant also gets into the cassette and onto the chainrings. Special oils for e-bike chains also have an adapted viscosity. An adhesive additive prevents the oil from being thrown off quickly. Due to the higher starting torques of the E-MTB, acceleration is more abrupt and the chain moves more violently. Ceramic additives ensure a higher lubrication density and thus counteract friction and wear of the chain. The ROTWILD service, meanwhile, uses a Hydrodynamic Lubevals all-round lubricant from Muc Off, among others.

Neatly apply the chain oil to gradually provide all components with the appropriate lubrication.

Cleaning is followed by care

Corrosion and rust in particular can cause discontent, technical dysfunction and further damage to sensitive parts of the bike. It is therefore a good idea to protect these bike parts with an appropriate care product. This includes the Harsh Condition Barrier (HCB1) spray from Muc Off. This forms a protective film that keeps moisture away from the frame, chain, metal parts, plastics and paintwork and provides lasting protection against corrosion. A frame polish also comprehensively gives moisture the dry shoulder. After spraying it on, it forms a water-repellent, non-sticky protective layer.

The HCB1 also protects the contact points between the removed battery and the slot in the down tube.

How often should riders clean their bikes?

"Gerade im Herbst sind wir als Rider auf feuchtem und schlammigem Untergrund unterwegs. Da sind regelmäßige Säuberung und Pflege der Bikes unabdingbar. Hierzu sollte man eine gute Auswahl probater Pflegemittel zu Hause haben. Dann steht auch der nächsten Runde nichts im Weg."

(Leonard Hackenberg, service employee at ROTWILD)
