“Fast and lively” - the ROTWILD R.EX ULTRA tested in BIKE
With its Mid-High Pivot suspension and revised geometry, the ROTWILD R.EX sets new standards in the E-All Mountain bike segment. BIKE magazine subjected the R.EX in the ULTRA configuration to an extensive test and presented its impressions in issue 12-2024. The comparison with its big brother, the R.EXC - the E-Enduro World Cup bike that proved itself on a number of challenging race tracks last year - is always present.
“Few E-MTBs have attracted as much attention this year as the new Race-Enduro R.EXC with its wild rear triangle (...). And at the latest since the test in EMTB 4/24 we know: The bike is also a real hit on the trail”
according to the editors
The R.EX, the trail version of the new ROTWILD suspension generation, impresses in the test with impressive data: “A little less travel and a record-breaking low weight promise maximum riding excitement on the trail.” With a total weight of just 21.6 kg (frame size L, without pedals) including the generously sized 820 Wh battery and 160 mm/150 mm travel, the R.EX shows that performance and lightness need not be a contradiction in terms.
“The huge battery with practical quick release is almost as much a part of ROTWILD as the deer on the head tube,” says the test report. The Shimano EP801 drivetrain, which the ROTWILD engineers deliberately chose for the bike concept, fits in perfectly with the sporty character of the R.EX. Powerful in its acceleration, individually and extensively customizable and perfectly matched to the specially developed battery, it ensures a dynamic riding experience.
The R.EX does not deny its proximity to the World Cup E-Enduro bike R.EXC. Design features such as the new rear triangle are taken directly from racing. The slightly sporty riding position is also reminiscent of the race-oriented model, but requires a little more active shifting of the riding position on demanding climbs. The new all-mountain geometry with a flat steering angle of 64° and a slightly lowered front end ensures plenty of traction and balanced riding characteristics.
The result? On the trail, you don't have to worry so much about your riding position, as the test clearly shows: “The low wheel weight and short chainstays give the R.EX agile handling. The bike is in its element on flat and winding trails. It's a lot of fun to ride!”
Conclusion: “Top equipment, high-quality chassis and super low weight ...” The ROTWILD R.EX is not only a light and agile E-All-Mountain-Bike, but also a real trail expert that carries the DNA of its “big brother” R.EXC. If you're looking for a bike that can handle a lot and impresses with its agility on flatter, twisty trails, you'll definitely find what you're looking for with the R.EX.
