Engineered for Racing: With Kelan Grant and the R.EXC in Morzine.
Two years of development on World Cup tracks, countless test kilometers, and one clear goal: to build an e-enduro bike that isn’t just fast, but adapts to the track, riding style, and race conditions. For the production of our R.EXC film, we followed Kelan Grant in Morzine — on his home trails, in the workshop, and in the moments in between.
„Everything I do throughout the day … getting faster and becoming better.“
Kelan doesn't describe racing as a single discipline, but as a mindset. That’s exactly what the R.EXC is all about: not a bike built for some abstract ideal, but a tool for riders who are constantly seeking a more precise setup.
For Kelan, Morzine isn’t just a backdrop, it’s a point of reference. Here, training, recovery, and everyday life converge into a single environment where the bike has to prove itself constantly — not just on race day, but every day in between.
„Being in the Alps and being in the mountains – that’s where I love to be.“
On the trail, it becomes clear how closely riding style and equipment are connected.
„It really opened my eyes to what racing could be.“
This way of thinking runs through the entire bike. It’s not about a fixed setup that works everywhere, but about a bike that can be adapted — to the track, the riding style and speed of the race.
„We constantly need to change and adapt the bike to suit that event.“
For Kelan, that’s exactly part of the appeal. The bike unlocks the most demanding terrain and opens up new ways to maneuver it. The R.EXC creates new lines — not only downhill, but just as much on the way back up.
„On the way up, really, it’s the power of the motor that opens up a totally different style of terrain for this bike.“
The team as an essential part of the development process: the R.EXC wasn’t created at a desk. Its platform was refined under race conditions — shaped by feedback across multiple seasons, where every stage, every failure, every battery change, and every setup decision had immediate consequences. The ultimate test under real-world conditions.
„Having a removable battery … was an absolute essential in a bike race.“
With Quick-Release Push+, battery removal isn’t just another feature, it’s real performance in race conditions. What saves seconds on race day also makes long days in the mountains easier: out, swap, and keep riding.
In the workshop, it quickly becomes clear that the R.EXC isn’t a one-setup bike. Its modular dropouts let you adjust the chainstay length, allowing balance and handling to be precisely tuned for frame size and purpose.
Here lies one of the most interesting aspects of the bike: the rocker as a tool to adjust the suspension. Not every rider, track, or day calls for the same setup. Three positions allow for different travel and progression.
„Right now all three of us on the team are running different settings in the rocker.“
For Kelan, this means more support, more traction, or more reserves — depending on what the terrain demands
On the Ultra model, this system pairs with the FOX DHX Live Valve Neo steel-spring shock. This is where the R.EXC concept really comes to life: digital control, perfectly tuned suspension, and a platform that reacts precisely under real-world conditions.
The R.EXC isn’t adjustable only at its contact points — the drive system is part of this logic too. With the AVINOX M2S and IPU900, it’s not just about peak numbers, but about integration: power, control, intuitive operation, and a system that doesn’t distract on race day, but delivers.
The Man and the Machine
„For over ten years now in racing, every time I get out on the bike, it’s almost like a meditation.“
What develops between Kelan and the R.EXC goes beyond technology: trust. That trust is where performance comes from — on the trail, in the race, and every moment leading up to it.
