"An important model!"
It is an all-rounder par excellence: our new R.X735. It craves altitude meters, but also comes along on the trail as a king. A contradiction? Not at all - as designer Lutz Scheffer explains. He was significantly involved in the development of the bike. With him, we take a closer look at the bike and a few of its parts.
If you ask Lutz Scheffer what kind of model the R.X 735 is for ROTWILD, the answer comes: "An important model!" He connects with it no evaluation of other bikes from the comprehensive product portfolio at all. He emphasizes so that the "735er" represents a novelty. Because it combines many features for different uses in one bike. "Gathering altitude meters, doing extended tours, riding demanding trails and venturing into the downhill sector: you can do all that with our R.X 735 without fear of reaching your limits too quickly," he says. "It's an intelligent symbiosis of good qualities that are in themselves opposites," adds the bike specialist, looking proudly at the creation. "We always analyze very carefully what customers expect from a bike," he says. He does not accept the word compromise. "The new 735 belongs with the R.X375 in our AGGRESSIVE Series. We derived this approach from our enduro bikes. We wanted to make their enormously sporty features accessible to a wider audience."
The ROTWILD IPU - Reach is everything
And also take the riders to more distant regions. Because the R.X735 comes with an enormously increased range. This is provided by a battery newly developed by ROTWILD, which is very powerful with 720 watt hours. "Range is always the limiting factor. Economical driving, recharging the battery in between or taking a second battery with you are obstacles on the way to ultimate stretching," emphasizes Lutz Scheffer. "We need battery power. Because we want to concentrate on our own performance without having to continuously keep an eye on battery management. That's what we mean when we say just put a loop on it." So battery range is not a luxury. Neither is low weight. In size L, the bike weighs around 21 kilos. For Lutz Scheffer, a balanced mix: "The weight doesn't limit the bike when riding. On the contrary, the bike brakes better when the center of gravity is lower." The 203 mm thick brake discs, for example, ensure safety.
Solved with a kick
Element of the AGGRESSIVE Series is the Quick Release for the battery. This sits in the down tube of the frame. The rider can easily remove it with a push of a button to the side. The upwardly oriented removal angle ensures safety, as the battery cannot simply fall down out of the frame. "Removable batteries have the advantage that you can charge them anywhere on external power sources without taking up space on the bike," says Lutz Scheffer. The battery sits in the R.X 735 intelligently and by means of metal spring clips and an elaborate push-button mechanism, friction-locked backlash and wobble-free in the frame. This is exposed to enormous forces and loads during sporty use. Removing and inserting the battery in continuous use must not change this principle. Fun fact on the side: The innovative arrangement of the cells justifies that the battery can be removed from its position in the frame to the right.
Full carbon - with one small exception
The frame of the R.X735 is made entirely of carbon. Only the yoke dances out of line. It is made of aluminum. The material represents an equivalent solution compared to carbon measured by the intended use. The yoke is the elementary connection between the damper below the top tube and the linkage to the chassis. This results in a fluid distribution of force from the movement of the shock into the chassis and back. The suspension travel of the shock meanwhile is 144 mm. In the fork, the spring travel is 150 mm. "Our suspension design is optimally matched to the range of use of the R.X 735. We need defined onset progression. So that the suspension travel is optimally utilized at the front and rear and the bikes don't bottoming out," explains Lutz Scheffer.
Optimum handling even in extreme driving situations
Due to the flat steering angle of 65.5 degrees, the bike is very full on the track. "A flat angle is good for every rider. Because through this, with a more central seating position at the same time, the rollover limit is shifted further forward and backward," explains the designer. The longer wheelbase - in frame size L this is 1253 mm - in relation to the reach (475 mm in L) ensures that the rider can optimally shift his center of gravity. She or he can move in a wider tolerance spectrum before physical forces lead him into imbalance or even a fall. "The R.X735 helps to refine this sporty limit more and more. In combination with the constant further development of one's own riding technique, an enormous gain in fun," emphasizes Lutz Scheffer.
Powerful engine from Japan
In the R.X 735, the ROTWILD engineers rely on the EP8 from Shimano. "This combines the best intersections of engine power, weight and volume for the purpose used," says the ROTWILD expert. "The Shimano motor underlines the very sporty character of the bike. You have to keep it happy with clever pedal management to get exactly the power at the moment you need it." Peak power on the EP8 is around 600 Wh. The user can individually tune various riding modes via the corresponding Shimano E-Tube app.
