German Champion Sofia Wiedenroth finished as best German Under-23 category racer during the WC XCO in Albstadt, Germany. Unfortunately Nadine Rieder went down hard in the downhill section which left her without any chances for a good finish.

During the past weekend, approximately 15.000 spectators experienced the only UCI WC XCO race in Germany.  International top athletes arrived for the race in the Schwäbisch Alb region and offered astonishing fights to the audience along the track. The long and steep climbs of the Albstadt track once more converted this race into a physically very demanding competition.

Sofia Wiedenroth had to start from 37th position in the women U23 category. Her strategy was clear right from the start: look ahead and try to pass everyone else. After the start loop, Sofia quickly found her pace and passed the finish line after 5 loops as best German racer in 14th position.  Happy with her performance she said: “Thats my best result in the U23 category so far. I was able to force the pedal. I was careful on the downhills though, because the track was still wet and slippery in some sections. I just didn’t want to crash. Next week we have the next WC in La Bresse, France and I hope to get a good starting position”.

A crash in the downhill section terminated Nadine Rieder’s hopes for a good position in the women Elite category. It started to be a good race for the young woman from Sonthofen - from 60th position at the start she advanced into the top 25, but then had bad luck and crashed: “I don't remember exactly how this happened, but I slipped away in the downhill and crashed. I was shocked in the first moment because I felt like I braked with my face but somehow I managed to get up continued the race. Unfortunately, I wasn’t really in race mode anymore but I coul still handle to finish on position 56 out of 90.”
