Race report Andrea Anjarí Coquimbo Cerro Abajo

On the weekend of January 30/31 Andrea started in her first Urban Downhill Race. The race took place in the city of Coquimbo, approx. 430 Km north of Santiago. With approx. 150 athletes the race was pretty much crowded and the weather was on the athletes side as well, since it wasn’t too hot and some clouds tapped the sun so it wasn’t too shiny.

To organize an urban downhill race requieres different challenges to overcome for the organization since permissions with city authorities must be negotiated, streets had to closed and traffic redirected in order to assure the athletes safety.

As usual on DH Races Saturday was practice day where the athletes were able know the track and get familiar with the obstacles and other particularities. Saturday had no surprises for Andrea. On Sunday morning, race day, practice continued and soon the qualification runs started, which assured the spots for the final run.

After Andrea crossed the finish line she commented:”The race was very well organized. Unfortunately I had a crash in the last training run before the qualification but nothing serious. Finally I won the race in my category, Women Elite and I could step up on the podium with my ROTWILD G1. My time of 1:58 minutes was OK and I had an failure free run”.
