New cranks and cassettes: "Shimano Deore XT M8000“
Shimano has revised the tried-and-tested Deore XT Groupset for 2016. The drivetrain has also undergone an update – with new innovations for cranks and cassettes.
The new Deore Shimano XT drivetrain now uses cassettes with eleven sprockets. For a broad spread of gears, the cassette sprockets come with 11 to 40 teeth or, for the first time, also with 11 to 42 teeth. Single, double or triple models are available as options for the cranks.
The new Shimano XT FC-M8000-3 triple crank offers a setup with 40/30/22 teeth. The double models are available with options of 38/28, 36/26 or 34/24 teeth. Relatively low spacings have been deliberately selected in order to ensure small gear steps and to avoid any interruptions in forward propulsion wherever possible. By selecting different cranksets and cassettes, riders can adapt the drivetrain individually to their own specific, personal requirements. This also applies to the single crank, which is available with a choice of 30, 32 and 34 teeth.
A special tooth design optimizes chain control and ensures that the chain is held considerably more firmly on the chainring. This increases not only safety, since the chain cannot drop easily, but also durability. Some of the new XT cranks, such as the Shimano XT 26-26TB2, are also offered with chainrings mounted three millimetres away from the frame and have been specially developed for the new 27.5” wheel standard.
All new XT cranksets rotate in a re-engineered HOLLOWTECH II bottom bracket. Thanks to smaller and lighter bearings, the new bottom brackets are not only lower in weight but also rotate more efficiently than predecessor models.
